Kenya SMS messaging regulations and restrictions

Restriction Description
Sender ID Pre-registration of Sender ID (from address) may be required.
Message content The following content is not allowed to be sent in Kenya:

  • Adult permissible
  • Note: Political messaging may only be sent between 8 am and 6 pm. Unsolicited political messages are not allowed, and various additional restrictions apply to political messaging.
  • Mobile gambling /casinos (real money)
  • Competitions
  • Voting
  • Virtual gambling (virtual credit)
  • Alerts
  • Chat
  • Info messages
  • Lottery (real money)
