Kenya SMS messaging regulations and restrictions

Like many other countries, Kenya operates according to an opt-in policy, and you must be able to demonstrate that your users have chosen to receive messages from you.   • Political messaging may only be sent between 8 AM and 6 PM. Unsolicited political messages are not allowed, and various additional restrictions apply to political messaging.

  • International / OTT traffic must be sent via the international binds at higher costs
  • Sender IDs must be whitelisted for Safaricom

  • Adult, gambling, competitions, voting, virtual credit, and chat content is not allowed
