We're back and chomping at the bit to get into the countdown of our Clickatell Hackathon winners! If you don't know what we're talking about, check out last week's post A Clickatell Hackfest. Now we always believed we had some rockstar staff here at Clickatell, but no one could have anticipated just how impressive our teams' creations would be. So without further ado, let's take a look at the 5th place winners. Legend tells of a team from a faraway land (the 7th floor), The Green Arrows, a ragtag clan of heroes from the realms of Products and Engineering. Their destiny, to create an application that would stretch across the vast expanse of your AndroidTM address book and make targeted communications simpler and much more efficient.
The Green Arrows created the aptly named, Bullseye. It's an app that allows you to send SMS messages to established groups of your Google contacts. Most modern smartphones can automatically sync with your Google contacts, and the team realized that many users were copying their Google contacts to another platform, in order to send SMS to groups of their contacts.
Using Bullseye, designed for one-man operations and small businesses, a user can sign up for a Clickatell API account (which instantly gives you global reach), quickly and easily, and be sending important messages to groups of their contacts in minutes. It's their way of making it possible to leverage data you already have on your phone, without requiring any other hardware or software components. As a positive side-effect, users are also encouraged to sort their Google contacts into relevant groups, which makes for much more efficient sending of email to groups in the future.
Take a look at the Bullseye code on Github to see what this team managed to pull off in just 24 hours. Next week?we talk to the team who took 4th place. We'll take a peak under the hood of the app they put together and find out why they're so passionate about sharing.
