The Situation
The t-mac product collects and uploads information as to asset conditions, status and alerts via GPRS to a central server to which users log-on, via any Internet enabled PC, to view live and historic readings. Ultimately, T-mac were looking for a robust messaging product that could send efficient SMS text alerts.
The Solution
t-mac's team of engineers chose to use Clickatell's HTTP SMS gateway API to inform end-users, using its award winning t-mac system, of any alarm/alert conditions that may be occurring.
The GPRS always-on approach to asset management has set the t-mac product ahead of its market place competition as an accurate, immediate remote management tool, which has no requirement for human interaction, sending information from the unit direct to the t-mac server. It is from the server that the real-intelligence shines through and where Clickatell's SMS gateway comes to fruition. Once t-mac sends alert messages to the server, the server immediately responds via Clickatell's gateway sending SMS direct to one or many personnel. The ability for t-mac's users to receive SMS alerts as soon as the t-mac device registers a fault has vast damage limitation and cost-saving benefits for the end-user and/or their client site.
The Results
In one instance this immediate SMS communication enabled an IT manager to be saved from a near-catastrophe when he was alerted that the air-conditioning units in his server rooms were faulty and the ambient temperature was slowly rising. He immediately resolved the issue by calling in service personnel to fix the faulty unit and subsequently saved his IT equipment from overheating. In another example, a manufacturing company was advised by SMS of over-heating machinery which, if left unnoticed could have resulted in machine down-time and hence a delay in the manufacturing process at their busiest time of the year. In this instance, the on-site service engineer received the SMS and promptly responded by investigating the machine and assessing that an over-night fix to the machine's built in cooling system be actioned. |
