The Situation

With extensive software at the disposal of SharedPerspective for accessing corporate databases, for enquiry and for update, the use of SMS for business intelligence communications was seen as a 'must-have' as part of the overall solution. This started as outward communications only, with plans to migrate to 2-way communication.

The Solution

ShreadPerspective had an in-house SMS gateway which was altered to communicate with the Clickatell HTTP API. As all communications go via the gateway, SharedPerspectve has the capability to transmit any corporate data they require to mobile phones / PDA's. As the gateway also handles incoming SMS, they are poised to take full advantage of 2-way SMS.

The Results

SharedPerspective found the stability of the system has allowed them to extend their own gateway to handle the full receipt of SMS messages as the HTTP API presented all of the capability they required. Additionally, when SharePerspective was challenged with a project combining email and SMS marketing for a public event, they were able to send a large number of SMS messages to a mailing list over a two day period. This combined with a 2 Way SMS response facility allowed the marketing vendor to track the responses and estimate the attendance at the event, demonstrating the effectiveness of SMS marketing for events.
