U.S. Dedicated Shortcodes

A shortcode is are required in the USA to give your text messages a verified “from” number (Sender ID) that can be easily memorized by your customers, suppliers or employees, enabling them to immediately respond to SMS text messages. A shortcode is perfectly suited to print or "on package" campaigns as a means to engaging your customers to submit immediate product feedback or to participate in mobile marketing campaigns.

Dedicated USA common shortcodes work across all major USA mobile operators and are managed by the USA Common Shortcode Administration (CSC). They are 5 or 6 digit sender ID numbers assigned to one organization or company, which in turn is allowed to use the number for multiple SMS text messaging services. Clickatell provides a hassle-free dedicated shortcode registration service for businesses within and outside the United States and manages the complete application and provisioning process.

Using a dedicated shortcode provides businesses with the following advantages:

Easy-to-use bi-directional communication.
Unlimited use of keywords.
Ownership of data that is sent and received.
Use of 'vanity' shortcodes (e.g. "Obama" can be translated into numerical form as 62262).
Little or no risk of service cancellation as a result of misconduct by a 3rd party.

To ensure that all carrier-required regulations are adhered to, please note that the following uses of a dedicated shortcode are not allowed:

Distribution of unsolicited SMS text messages.
Distribution of SMS text messages containing adult, tobacco or alcohol related content.

Dedicated Shortcode Registration Period

Dedicated shortcodes are registered through, and regulated by, a central body within the United States. The registration process requires carrier approval and testing, and may last 8 to 12 weeks from receipt of both the completed application form and payment from the registrant.

Note: We are unable to deliver SMS messages to T-Mobile USA prepaid and T-Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MNVO) subscribers due to T-Mobile policy.
