Top headlines from the ITWeb news portal are now also available on wireless devices, with the introduction of Clickatell's Application Programming Interface (API).

ITWeb's 50 000 readers can now choose the "SMS this headline" function on a chosen news article to transmit the headline from the site to peers using mobile handsets anywhere in the world. This adds to ITWeb's normal range of functions for each news feature - including e-mailing, printing and personal archiving.

Robert Mace, ITWeb Sales Director, says: "This new wireless service offers our readers yet another tool by which to access news and communicate. It means that sending a headline has become location-independent."

Mace adds that the design and implementation of Clickatell's API gave ITWeb the freedom to create and deploy an interface to its own design requirements with ease. "It has been a pleasure to complete this project without incurring deployment costs or the need for external consulting."

Clickatell Marketing Director Danie du Toit says the company's global SMS delivery is achieved through its extensive messaging platform and international gateways. The Clickatell API allows clients to manage their messaging without constant support from the vendor.

Clickatell focuses on wireless communications and the convergence of Web and mobile technologies, taking out the complexities resident in wireless technologies, and providing a simple, user-friendly interface through which users can have access to SMS and other text messaging platforms.
