Clickatell to Host Wireless Developer Workshop in Orlando May 09, 2002 Cingular Wireless, the second largest mobile network in the USA, has invited Cape Town based Clickatell to host a developers' workshop at the WAVE 2002 event in Orlando, Florida. Clickatell will be the only South African company represented at the event, and will be exhibiting their solutions to conference goers together with Ericsson, Palm, Handspring, Nokia and Computer Associates, amongst others. Clickatell's API (Application Programming Interface) was handpicked by Cingular above all other global SMS solutions available, due to the generic nature of the integration platform that the API represents. It allows developers with diverse qualifications and skill sets to integrate with the largest selection of global mobile networks, amongst others the Cingular GSM network. Clickatell's API is renowned for stability, reliability, and speed, allowing any SMS messaging applications, such as alerts and notifications, to be integrated within minutes. Hosting the workshop, and exhibiting at the same time, is of immeasurable strategic value for Clickatell. Pieter de Villiers, MD of Clickatell, explains: "It is not merely the fact that we were recognised by a giant such as Cingular above all competition that is of significance here, but also the opportunities presented at the conference that will open up many doors for Clickatell. We will be working closely with Cingular itself, and we have an opportunity to expose our technology to the US market while it is still relatively young." Clickatell, who plans to have a physical presence in the USA later in 2002, has established itself as the market leader in SMS integration technology over the past two years. The company has a strong reseller and distribution network across Europe, the UK, the Middle East, Australasia and most of Africa. While already having many clients in the USA, Clickatell believes that GSM, as new technology, will experience rapid growth there over the next five years. Also to be showcased at the event, are some of the GPRS and next generation mobile entertainment platform technologies that Clickatell and strategic partner Oksijen are planning to release in the next few months. This new technology will focus on enablement of large scale aggregators and telecommunications networks, allowing them to host development platforms on which developers can create and host GPRS and next generation applications. According to De Villiers, the power of this lies in the underlying revenue channels that they are exposing to mobile networks, enabling them to rapidly roll out applications that are focused on content-based billing.
