Clickatell spreads spirit of giving August 21, 2006 Cape Town, South Africa - On 12 August 2006 Clickatell, the world's premier mobile messaging operator, hosted a mid-year Christmas party for the Haven Night Shelter in District Six, Cape Town, South Africa. The afternoon consisted of a three-course meal and entertainment, as well as gift hampers for each of the Haven's 80 residents. The Haven's mission is to provide temporary accommodation and rehabilitation for adults living on the streets who are committed to reintegration. Clickatell sponsored the event, and the company's staff members arranged catering, gifts and entertainment, as well as enjoying the day with the residents. "The appreciation for what you have done is still echoing amongst the staff and the clients in the shelter," said Michael Prinsloo, Night Haven manager. "As this kind of event does not happen at this time of the year for many, you have really touched the hearts of the people in the shelter." "Founded in Cape Town just six years ago, Clickatell has experienced a massive international expansion over the last year, but our roots will always remain in South Africa. As a company, it's easy to just hand money back to your community, but we feel it's so much more rewarding for us to be able to give up our time and to get to know and build relationships with those we are helping," said Patrick Lawson, managing director of Clickatell South Africa. As part of Clickatell's ongoing social awareness programme, its staff members also donated clothes to the Durbanville Children's Home this year. This is one of the leading therapeutic care facilities caring for a number of severely disabled children. Established in 1883, this non-profit residential care facility currently cares for 169 children and is located in north Cape Town, South Africa. Other company events in 2006 included casual day on 1 September in support of a range of children's charities, and on 21 September the company and its staff will be supporting the Bandana campaign for bone marrow research, once again.
